Who gets to tell America’s story?

The Art of the Crossfade is a live multimedia experience presented by Professor Josh Kun and DJ/Producer J.PERIOD that explores how music can connect people across cultures, generations, and communities. At the center of the experience is the crossfader — the horizontal slider on a DJ mixer that allows two songs to blend without erasing either. In the hands of a DJ, different sounds, histories, and perspectives can coexist to create something entirely new. Launched in July at Grand Performances in Los Angeles, the four-city series seeks to energize audiences across the country by connecting their own musical histories to the collective civic imagination.

In Phoenix, The Art of the Crossfade is organized in partnership with CALA Alliance and will blend a dynamic musical lecture with interactive community engagement, culminating in a high-energy Hip Hop “mixtape” performed and recorded LIVE onstage at Walter Studios—in one take!—featuring an all-star lineup of artists, musicians, DJs, and community voices representing the past, present, and future sounds of democracy.

This isn’t a concert.

It’s a live remix of Phoenix itself.
